KIDMOTO ADVENTURE / PARENT’S BUYING GUIDE
THE RIGHT BIKE.
BEFORE THE FIRST RIDE.
Choosing a kids’ dirt bike starts with the rider: their fit, ability and the place they will ride. Here’s what to check before choosing a model or engine size.
01 / THE RIDER COMES FIRST
CHOOSE BY FIT.
NOT AGE ALONE.
Age ranges and engine capacity cannot tell you whether a child can safely control a particular bike. Consider their size, strength, balance, coordination, judgement and previous riding experience. A maximum-load figure is a weight limit, not a promise that the bike will fit.
Start with seat height and ground reach
Measure their inside leg while wearing riding footwear. Compare it with the bike’s stated seat height to help understand the size, then check fit on the actual bike with the engine off. Seat width, footwear and riding position also affect ground reach; seat height is not a minimum inside-leg measurement.
- When seated, both feet should touch the ground and the rider should be able to support the bike.
- They must reach both grips, turn the handlebars and operate the brakes and throttle comfortably, without stretching.
- With both footrests lowered, check a balanced seated position with their feet on the rests.
For the Trail49, start with its 58 cm seat height and illustrated fit guide. If you are unsure about riding readiness, ask a qualified off-road riding instructor to assess your child before riding.
02 / UNDERSTAND THE CONTROLS
SIMPLE CONTROLS.
REAL RESPONSIBILITY.
Check whether the bike has manual gears and a clutch lever, or automatic twist-and-go controls. Automatic controls remove gear changes, but the rider still needs to learn balance, throttle control, speed control and braking.
The Trail49 is automatic, twist and go: there are no manual gears or clutch lever to operate. The throttle is on the right-hand grip. No speed limiter is fitted. Never assume a model has a limiter because another bike looks similar.
Petrol or electric?
Read the instructions for the particular model. A petrol bike needs compatible fuel and the correct engine-care routine; an electric model has its own battery and charging requirements. Neither power type establishes suitability by itself. Check how the bike starts, how it stops, how speed is controlled and what supervision the maker requires.
Before starting the Trail49, the supervising adult and rider must understand the brakes, throttle and fitted engine-stop control. Read the Trail49 user manual before assembly, fuelling or use.
03 / PLAN THE FIRST RIDE
THE SPACE.
THE KIT. THE CHECKS.
Adult supervision required whenever riding. The Trail49 is a petrol-powered off-road motorcycle. Use only on suitable private land with the landowner’s permission, away from the public. Do not ride on public roads, pavements or public paths. Plan for the rider’s experience and keep other people and animals clear.
Budget for a properly fitted and fastened motorcycle helmet, eye protection, riding gloves, protective boots and suitable protective riding clothing. Check the equipment’s intended use and size, and try it together. A youth label alone does not guarantee fit; have a motorcycle-equipment retailer check the helmet fit.
Explore Kit them out for youth equipment and fit guidance. The equipment is sold separately; Amazon links are labelled paid links.
Before each ride, check the bike and controls with the engine off. Do not ride with loose or damaged parts, ineffective brakes, a sticking throttle or a fuel leak. Hot engine and exhaust surfaces can burn; petrol is a fire risk. Never run a petrol engine indoors or in an enclosed space. Use the full before-every-ride checklist.
04 / THINK BEYOND THE BIKE
KNOW THE COSTS.
KNOW THE SUPPORT.
Compare the total delivered price, assembly requirements, protective equipment, fuel or charging needs, maintenance and access to suitable riding space. Check who provides spare parts, what the warranty covers and where a return must be sent.
The Trail49 costs £229.99, including FedEx UK delivery and all import and clearance charges. Expected delivery is 4–6 working days from ordering. It is dispatched from China and arrives unbuilt, so assembly and first-use checks are required.
Petrol, two-stroke oil and protective equipment are not included. The Trail49 uses petrol premixed with suitable two-stroke oil; follow its own manual’s measured mixing table. Never run it on petrol alone or borrow another model’s fuel ratio. Read the fuel-and-oil guide.
Our one-year parts warranty covers faulty parts, with free replacement and delivery of those parts. Accident damage, misuse and normal wear are excluded from that voluntary warranty; statutory rights are unaffected. Change-of-mind returns go to China, with £100 arranged shipping for eligible never-fuelled bikes. Our arranged carrier will not accept a bike that has ever contained petrol, even if emptied. Read the full delivery, returns and warranty terms before ordering.
